When to come

Best time to see lemurs in Madagascar

Lemurs can be seen all year round — they don't migrate and live in the forests permanently. But the ease and quality of sightings depends on the season and the location.

The best window is the dry season, from May to mid-November. The weather is cooler and more comfortable for trekking through the forests, and the lemurs are at their most active and visible.

Close, but on their terms

How close you actually get

In the national parks the lemurs are wild and keep their distance — that is the point, and a long lens or a patient guide is what gets you the shot. In the private reserves at Vakona and the Palmarium, generations of habituated lemurs will come down to meet you, and that is where most of our guests get the photograph they take home.

We build both kinds of encounter into a trip so you see lemurs behaving naturally in the forest as well as face to face.
