Andasibe: Lemurs & Rainforest Trails
Chameleons at Peyrieras, a walk among the lemurs at Vakona, a guided night walk, and an early start in Analamazaotra, where the indri call most mornings.

Our published land prices, the costs to add, and how to compare quotes for the same number of travellers and calendar days. Start with the route, then price the whole holiday.
Our private land trips start at €320 per adult for two days at Andasibe and €1,730 for the 11-day Classic South. These are starting prices per adult, from two people. Work out the land price for the whole party, then the rest of the holiday. Add international flights, any domestic flights the route needs, extra hotel nights outside the itinerary, most lunches and dinners, drinks, entry formalities and insurance. The right comparison is the written total for your group on the same dates, with the same inclusions.
Distance makes a cheap-looking route expensive. The RN7 from Antananarivo to Toliara (Tulear) alone is more than 900 km, and adding another region can mean a flight and another travel day. Tell us the number of travellers, total calendar days and budget per person before adding stops. A shorter route with time in each place is often the more useful quote to compare.
Every set trip is private and priced per adult, from two people. The price covers:
Not included: lunches and dinners except where a trip lists them, drinks, tips, personal spending and flights. An activity listed as optional also needs checking in your quote. Extra nights before or after the named itinerary are separate unless agreed. The final price depends on group size, season and hotels, and we confirm it in writing before anything is booked. No payment is required to enquire.

Prices below are per adult. International flights are additional for every route. The access and return journeys differ:
Flight arrangements and any changes need confirming in the written quote. Every trip can be reshaped: shorter, longer or with a park swapped. Count the extra travel days and nights before treating an extension as affordable. The 10-day and 20-day trips both spend days on the Tsiribihina river, where at the time of writing the UK Foreign Office advises seeking alternative routes after armed robberies on boats, and we can reshape either without the river, for example by flying to Morondava and joining the western route there (more in our safety guide).
You can hire a vehicle and driver-guide and book the rest yourself. As checked on 17 October 2026, Roadtrip Africa lists vehicles from 79 to 109 euros per vehicle per day on rentals of at least 14 days in its low season, depending on vehicle class. Its driver-guide costs 30 euros a day, rising to 40 from 1 January 2027, including the driver's own room and meals. Fuel is extra. Requote with that provider for your dates, route and vehicle class.
Then add your own hotels, park fees, park guides and meals. Ask whether the hire covers every calendar day, including rest days, and whether a one-way return charge, fuel, ferries or detours are additional. Compare the same route and vehicle requirements; the lowest advertised rental class may not suit every road.
Whether that comes out cheaper than a set trip depends on the hotels you choose and how much planning you want to do. What a set trip adds is one contact from start to finish: the person who answers your first message arranges the trip and checks in while you're here.
Tell us your dates and what you would like to see. We reply within 24 hours with a written itinerary and a firm price.
A guesthouse-and-public-transport budget pays for a different trip from a private vehicle and reserved lodges. It also needs more time for connections. The UK Foreign Office advises against taxi-brousses because of robbery risk and reports frequent road deaths involving them. Our guide to getting around Madagascar covers the trade-offs.
With a private vehicle, hotel choices make a large difference. Roadtrip Africa's published planning examples put a mid-range double up to about 75 euros a night and a deluxe double usually below 150. Those are examples per room, not a quote for your dates or every lodge. On a set trip the listed accommodation is already included, so do not add the whole hotel cost again. Tell us if you want simpler hotels or upgrades.
Travel month affects availability, prices and which route works. A cheaper date helps only if the roads and activities you want are accessible. There is no single November closure date for Madagascar's parks: Madagascar National Parks lists Analamazaotra and Isalo as open all year, while rain can disrupt access and particular circuits. For the west, confirm the road and Tsingy access for your dates. Our month-by-month guide helps choose the route before comparing seasonal quotes.

On our set trips, the listed park entrance fees and local guides are included. Travelling independently, ask for the current entrance fee for each park, the number of chargeable days and the guide's circuit fee. Madagascar National Parks says entry rates depend on the site category and visitor nationality. A park-entry figure alone is not the full cost of a guided visit.
Park tariffs can change. Confirm the current rate for your travel dates directly with Madagascar National Parks, and ask whether local taxes or circuit fees are separate.
Every visit to an MNP park has to be made with a local guide, paid on top at a rate set park by park. Private and community reserves, such as Vakona near Andasibe and Anja on the road south, aren't run by MNP and charge separately. Fees are paid in cash, in ariary.
The international flight is usually the biggest cost outside the trip price. Antananarivo has direct flights from Paris and one-stop connections through hubs such as Addis Ababa, Mauritius and Réunion. Compare live return fares for your exact dates before fixing the land trip. The flights guide explains the main connection options and what to check on the ticket.
Price each domestic leg on the live schedule and check the baggage allowance and ticket conditions before confirming the land route. We recommend a night in Antananarivo between a domestic arrival and an international departure, then more contingency if your connection or route needs it. That night has its own hotel, transfer and meal costs. A buffer reduces pressure; it does not guarantee a connection.
Check the entry fee or visa requirement for your nationality and exact stay with the official sources linked in our visa guide. Use the charge and payment method confirmed for your circumstances when setting the budget. UK advice requires six months of passport validity after arrival, two blank pages and evidence of onward or return travel for the short-stay arrangement.
Budget too for travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, and for any vaccinations or malaria tablets your travel clinic recommends. Our safety guide explains why the evacuation cover matters.
Apart from the meals a trip specifically lists, lunches and dinners are extra. Roadtrip Africa's current planning guide puts a three-course lodge dinner around 15 to 20 euros per person. Ask about meal plans at the actual hotels in your quote, then add lunches, drinks and any tips you choose to give. For illustration, choosing a 35-euro daily allowance adds 385 euros per person over 11 tour days. Set your allowance from the actual hotels' menus and meal plans, then budget for arrival and buffer days too.
Plan cash needs before leaving a town for a long drive. Withdrawal limits vary by bank and machine, and an ATM may be empty. Ask which payments on your route need ariary and which hotels accept your card. Our currency guide covers cash planning; do not treat an old euro-to-ariary conversion as the rate you will receive.

Tips are not included in our prices and are your choice. One rental provider, Roadtrip Africa, suggests 5 to 10 euros a day for its driver-guide; that is a reference point, not a compulsory Tongasoa charge. Agree within your party whether an allowance is per traveller or for the group, and remember that local park guides are separate people. Ask us before travel if you want help planning a cash allowance.
On the booking page, send your travel dates, number of travellers and budget per person. In “Anything else we should know?”, add your total calendar days, walking pace, hotel preferences and whether that budget includes flights. We can then compare a workable route with your actual spending limit. No payment is required to enquire.

Start with the land route: the 11-day Classic South is from €1,730 per adult. For two adults, that starting land amount is twice the displayed per-adult price. Add both travellers' international tickets, the Tulear return flights, entry costs, insurance, extra arrival and buffer nights, transfers and meals not included. Use an allowance for meals, drinks and tips across all your calendar days. Ask for a group quote and current flight fares. Our itinerary guide shows how the tour days fit a two-week calendar.
A private trip can cost much more than a guesthouse-and-public-transport holiday because it pays for a vehicle and driver-guide throughout the route. Flights, distance, hotel choices and extra calendar days matter more than the price of one local meal. Compare written quotes with the same inclusions and the same number of travellers.
Roadtrip Africa advertises 30 euros a day for its driver-guide, rising to 40 from 1 January 2027, with the vehicle and fuel separate. That is one provider's offer, not a market-wide rate. On our set trips, the vehicle, English-speaking driver-guide and listed park guides are included in the per-adult land price.
On our set trips, the listed park entrance fees and local guides are included. Optional extra visits need confirming in the quote. Independent travellers should ask for both the current entrance tariff and the guide or circuit charge; a quoted entry fee alone does not cover everything. Madagascar National Parks requires visits with a guide.
Confirm the current charge and payment method for your nationality and length of stay directly before travel. The visa guide links the official sources. Add any entry charge to the land-trip budget.
Tips are optional and excluded from the land price. Plan an allowance for your driver-guide and any local guides, and agree whether it is a group amount or per person. Ask us if you want help budgeting; a recommended allowance is not an extra compulsory fee.
Per person, usually yes, because one traveller carries the whole cost of the vehicle and driver-guide. Our published prices are per adult, from two people, and vary with group size, so ask us for a quote for one. Asking costs nothing, and we reply within 24 hours.
